Binge Baby, Binge

I almost never watch tv.  For real.  The tv is on constantly- but I rarely watch it . . . until recently.  I've been binge watching tv shows like CRAZY the last 3 weeks.  Here's what I've been watching:

Never Have I Ever
It's a sort of comedy, written by Mindy Kaling (she apparently was in The Office- but I shockingly never watched that.) I'm not sure how I found her, but once I did- I've always liked her.  Anyway- it's about a teenage girl as she navigates grieving her father's unexpected death, the relationship with her mom, and boys and friends.  Why did I like it?  I love teenagers.  It reminded me a lot of My Big Fat Greek Wedding or Crazy Rich Asians.  Kind of a coming to terms with your family, and their culture . . . and being able to love yourself.
This poor girl was innocent and clueless and brazen and . . . I loved it.

The Big Flower Fight
This is a competition with flower . . . art.  There were 10 pairs of friends/couples/business partners and they competed to make the most amazing flower sculptures.  They were AMAZING.  Yes, they used flowers, but it was honestly an art creation contest.  Every episode they had to create something fantastic, and then someone was voted off.  The pairs of people were diverse. Some were super "normal" and others were so flamboyant.  (If you've watched this- Henck.  He fascinated me with the way he colored his hair and the themed outfits . . . and while his clothes were outrageous, he was so kind and encouraging to the other contestants and competitive without being a jerk)  I loved seeing how the plants and flowers were incorporated into the art.  It was awesome!

Ozark
Okay- this is a totally unexpected show for me.  I typically do not like shows that are so dark.  I really like Jason Bateman (director and lead actor) so I tried it on a whim.  It's dark.  But I like how he's involved in this really really illegal activity, but still a good man.  I'll say this- I really shouldn't watch this before I go to bed though, I've woken up several nights hearing a "sound" and thinking the drug cartel is probably in my house- coming to slit our throats.

Cheer
I watched this at the recommendation of a friend.  She wasn't wrong.  Hot dog this was good.  Which I did not expect.  It's crazy to see how much competition cheerleaders put their bodies through.  Wow.  They are tougher than football players.  They still stunt with cracked ribs, and sprained ankles, and torn knee parts and . . . it's crazy.  I assumed it would be a lot of negative, catty drama- but it wasn't.  It was really about how hard they work, and what a lot of them have overcome.  It was good.

I'm not sure what I'll watch after Ozark.  Andrew is trying to talk me into watching The Office.  I probably need something lighter than Ozark- that's for dang sure!

Comments

  1. When our Andrew was still at home, he loved The Office and it was on quite a bit in our living room so I watched from the kitchen. The characters catch you - their weirdness. I had to get used to that type of filming. Similar to Parks & Rec which I also saw a lot of. Thanks for sharing your reviews :)
